So much like with Doctor Who and a leftist hack has driven another show into the ground in the name of representation and progressive values.
Before you go “StAr TrEk HaS aLwAyS bEeN wOkE” there is a massive difference between presenting a moral issue or hot button point and then presenting both the sides of the argument and allowing the audience to make their own mind up, or even having a kiss happen and not be focused on and what we got under Kurtzman. Under Kurtzman gone was the debate and in came the lectures this is the difference between a progressive bent done well and one that is hamfisted and forced down your throat. If Alex Kurtzman and co had gotten to redo the first interracial kiss it would have been told over multiple episodes whilst a character rants about modern racism in America and they complain about the hetero normative nature of it.
There is also a skill to adding progressive themes into a mass market show in a way that doesn’t reduce its mainstream appeal. Kurtzman Trek couldn’t manage that it decided to tell long time Trekkies to take a hike if they didn’t like all the new changes to canon, and decided that the LGBTQ+ community and fringe radical progressives where enough to keep the show on air, rather unsurprisingly they weren’t. As we have said at length the LGBTQ community is less than 15% of the world’s population, the amount that also watches Star Trek is even smaller than that. When you alienate a mass audience by making it about fringe issues and forcing almost every character to be LGBTQ+then you see just how unsustainable that business model is.
Star Trek much like Star Wars is also a fading brand in terms of cultural relevance and the kids just don’t care about it. The most likely way to turn it around is to go back to the movies, and do classic stories from the original series films as modern movies and remake them. TV series likely aren’t the way to go.
